Not sure if they do call in order..i just walked in and dined...service was pretty quick. Sorry
That's sad! Especially since i had a decent experience
Nice place, outside seating available. Large booths, kind staff, decent food. Located in the downtown Houston area. Lavender mule was surprisingly very good! 1 thing worth mentioning-Food was a little slow seemingly and restaurant wasn't nearly full at the time of day I visited. Not sure if that's typical.
Food was absolutely AMAZING. I'd highly recommend the brisket quesadillas and pulled pork tacos. As well as their Mac and cheese and chicken sandwich. However, I'd skip the banana pudding. Tastes like artificial banana pudding with vanilla wafers and a few fresh bananas tossed in. Drinks are good tho, and the service was great as well. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly.
What a great spin on southern food! The breakfast tacos were incredible and packed with flavor. Try their jalapeño Bloody Mary while your there.
Brunch was great! Great food And really affordable. I would come back here anytime.
Excellent variety of familiar comfort foods with a twist. The food and drinks were amazing!
Good atmosphere good food like the nachos and the drinks are nice. I like the glass the server them in pluse the staff is great the actual talk and repeat your order back to u.
Food was great! Service was awful! Our server mumbled, did not refill our drinks (we got our own), he also did not come back to the table after we got our food. I felt like we were a bother to him. Love Moonshiners but with sevice like that it will be awhile before we come back. One server Morgan did ask if we needed anything.
I always have a great experience at moonshiners. My parents and I frequent the place before lots of Astros games since location is close enough to walk to MMP afterwards. Food is always delicious and the service is always friendly!
This place was delicious. I had their brisket grilled cheese and their seasonal beer and OMG soooooo good. Will recommend.
Nick, Alyssa ,Janelle, Kiara, Braelyn , Gabby helped me and my friend when we came in. Their customer service was awesome! I love the honey mustard and fried okra! The barbecue chicken was so yummy, the chicken and waffles my friend has were delicious as well! Overall I’d give this place a 5 star rating, thanks to them , the location, the great atmosphere, the menu, and the cooks, we’ll definitely come back! I want to thank the owners for hiring them !!
Stopped in for quick snack and sports updates. Banana pudding was as big as my son's head! Delicious and he ate the whole thing. I had a side of fresh hand battered fried okra. Been here several times, good food, service, and atmosphere.
Awesome chicken sandwich. Wonderful old style fries. And a huge jar of tea. And friendly service. This was my first visit but it won't be the last.
The cocktail and brunch menu options reinforced the Southern vibe here. Seating was a mix of booths and regular chairs with a bar area as well. I liked that there were many tv screens. And I noticed different beers on tap together with a selection of wines. I enjoyed the peach-shine tea from the good variety of brunch cocktails available.
I love the food here. I truly love the service and the place. It has a good vibe. It was good.
The food is pretty good here, and it’s laid back. Sometimes issues with the homeless approaching your table when eating near the sidewalk.
As a bar the moonshiners' rating is probably closer to five stars for its lively atmosphere and friendly service. I had the shrimp and grits, which was smothered in gravy (low country style) and a copious amount of bacon. Unfortunately they were a bit heavy handed with the spice and it ruined the overall flavor. I like heat as much as the next guy, but not when it's overwhelming. That said, I'd probably return but order something else next time.
When we arrived, we were told to seat ourselves anywhere we'd like. This was ok but we ended up outside which was a bit cold. We asked our server if she could turn on the heater and she said the manager hasn't agreed to turn on the heaters for the past 3 weekends. Unfortunately she didn't know why the manager hadn't turned them on. It took forever to get our order but we didn't complain because the food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the mama's fried chicken sandwich with fries. It was huge, juicy, and scrumptious. My friends ordered the brisket grilled cheese with fries and spicy tomato soup. I'm giving it 4 stars because when customers seat themselves, the restaurant will have 2 people at a table for 6. We saw so many customers leave because of the seating situation and this was the reason we sat outdoors. I typically don't mind sitting outside but it was extremely uncomfortable being approached by several homeless people who were panhandling.
Things are bigger in Texas!! This order of chicken and waffles was as big as my head and delicious! Drinks were A+++And our server was hilarious 👌🏽
Pretty darn good. Huge portion sizes and really good quality. The waffle on the chicken and waffles is enormous. The shrimp Alfredo is so creamy and delicious. A shame I waited so long before trying it. All those missed opportunities.
As always, great food and great atmosphere! Plus the Alex Bregman Brisket grilled cheese is the best!
It was fairly tasty, but for your prices it was not anything special. You are downtown, you need to amp up your creativity and presentation if you are going to charge $13 for a grilled cheese. My husband ordered an old fashioned for ~$10 and it was tiny with a huge sphere ice cube. Pretty sure there was only about a shots worth of liquid in the whole thing total. Service could also use some TLC. Took 25-30 minutes to turn out a plate of nachos (appetizer) after they were brought out incorrectly the first time. It was 6:15 PM. So not the heart of the rush, really, few excuses.
Grabbed lunch here on our Houston weekend getaway. You'll likely need to wait for a table, but know it's worth it! 2 of us had their award winning brisket grilled cheese sandwich and have zero doubt about why it won. It was delicious! One had a burger and one had the pulled pork tacos and everyone was happy with the food... And the moonshine drinks. Don't miss the jalapeño Bloody Mary, either!
This place is a seven star. I love the drinks with actually moonshine in it. Yet its mixed so well that you wont taste the moonshine. Then they have the greatest chicken and waffles ever with Blackberry Chutney Sauce. Dont let me get started on the brisket nachos.
This restaurant was really awesome. We were on a business trip and asked around what would be a great place to go, we had four people tell us to go to Moonshiner’s. The food was incredible, the staff was great and the atmosphere was perfect for while we were looking for. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cool place to eat in this area.
Hospitality not so southern as promoted. Waitress didn't serve my table and a sub came over as she wouldn't even look up. When I did get a waitress she didn't even introduce herself.
The drinks here are mixologist grade, they taste really good. Drinks are so good that I can't comment on the food cause I was too drunk to taste it!
This place is great! The food, service (Adela was our server and she was awesome!!!) & atmosphere is wonderful. We had the Alex Bergman (grilled cheese with brisket) & the brisket nachos
Decides to stop in for a quick drink, but due to great service and terrific food, we stayed longer. Bartender definitely had menu knowledge and each if her suggestions were on point. I truly enjoyed the brisket grilled cheese with loaded mashed potatoes and the pie was really good. Will definitely be returning and trying other items off of the menu.
Mule is yum, chicken a smidge over done, but truly only a smidge and fair for the late hour. I would recommend. Service was prompt and respectful with a smile.
Even though it's located DOWNTOWN Houston, the atmosphere was peaceful and happy. The area is clean ( someone was picking up the trash as I was walking towards the building), I felt safe and at ease. The customer service was great and the food was awesome. Pricing was to be desired, but all in all it was cool.
Popped in here for lunch. Good service. Interesting cocktails.
Got the lemon chicken & herbs & it was in a plate with water🤢Truly something u can get at the store. The chicken & waffles was good but it wasn’t that crispy. It was soggy. Won’t come back but the waitress was nice.
Great place to grab a late breakfast. The food was fantastic, a bunch of good mimosa options and a pleasantly spicy Bloody Mary. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive, and they kept the atmosphere fun and laid back. Made for an awesome lazy Saturday morning with friends.
The seating situation is less to be desire, it's literally a free for all trying to find a table and be seat. This also created a problem with the amount time it took for the waiter to introduce herself. Yes the Chicken Sandwich and Southern table brisket nachos were delicious was great, but I can go to another restaurant and have better customer service with food that taste just as great.
Had brunch at Moonshiners and it was excellent! The Brisket Benedict was top notch and the Southern Surf was unique and delicious. First cup of coffee was a bit luke-warm and no half and half cream available for coffee was the only draw-back. Recommended!
Food was great! Price not bad for portion and quality! Actually kid friendly but no kids menu.
Charming location with great atmosphere. There for Sunday morning breakfast, they offered both lunch and breakfast menus. The French toast w/homemade whipped cream, fresh strawberries & homemade whiskey syrup was to die for! The watermelon salad w/feta cheese, strawberries and a mild balsamic vinaigrette dressing offered 3 big slices of delicious melon, was unique, delicious and very refreshing. The service was excellent in spite of the growing crowd. Will definitely be visiting again soon.
Sam always comes and checks on us whenever we come in to ensure that our visit is always a memorable one. Food is excellent, staff is awesome, and ownership sure know what they are doing. Give this place a try before a Rockets or 'Stros game!
Great ambience, food, drinks and staff! The waitress was very nice to us. I tried Brisket with cheese and it was outstanding! Not to forget the addictive kettle chips that came along. Must go if you are in downtown and looking for good food and drinks.
I love this place. I dont go out much but they are amazing. Nick is one of the bartenders and he makes your time there amazing
The Moonshiners is an amazing establishment and a great group of individuals who work here. The food is sensational and you get more than enough for what you pay. 5 stars easily.
Good beer and food here. I stopped by for lunch after the Houston marathon and enjoyed a good burger and some addicting kettle chips. Reasonable beer selection too. I came back for dinner and really liked the rainbow trout with garlic mashed potatoes. The banana pudding was tasty too. A rock solid casual place.
SO good So Yummy! Well worth the drive into downtown ! Group came in for Sunday Brunch - everyone came away satisfied and wanting to return in the future. I had the French Toast Bread Pudding - so delicious!
The Apple Pie shot was amazing!!! Adela and Sam provided great service, we had a great time.Social ditancing was good and everything was sanitized and clean. We ordered the Pulled Pork Tacos. A must try for sure!
This place is amazing!! The atmosphere is chill and when they open the doors, you hear the hustle and bustle of downtown Houston all while eating the best food!! Try the banana pudding it will not disappoint!
Great atmosphere and delicious food! With all the strategically-placed TVs, there's not a bad seat in the house! The pulled brisket sandwich is amazing! And the jalapeno peppercorn bloody mary is one of my all-time favorites! Love this place!
We came twice over the weekend. As Houston downtown was mainly closed down this was one of the establishments that was open to eat. Out kids chilled and we had some food and drinks and it was nice. Highly recommended
Service was both both fast and friendly. Food was good and restrooms were clean. We would go back.
I went for dinner and sat at the bar. The staff was very friendly and recommended some great options. For an appetizer we tried the fried mushrooms and my main meal was the brisket grilled cheese sandwich. All the food was flavorful. For dessert we tried the pecan pie and peach cobbler. They were both amazing. Definitely a great spot.
This brisket is almost as good as my daddy's! Let's just say I love it!! Kitchen opened til 11, which is nice during the weekdays since most restaurants nearby close at 8. The moonshine mojito was fantastic as well! A well-done twist on a classic cocktail. Also they did fantastic with my shellfish allergy!!!
